“Adapting to the rapid changes requires a mindset change, ” commented Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong in his enlightening speech during the National Day Rally. Rising to the call of ever-increasing demands for express services, Royal Plaza on Scotts will change your mindset on the way guests check into the hotel from 1 September 2003 onwards. 

Introducing  an express check-in service (ZROOM Rez, ZROOM- In, ZROOM- Out), aimed at providing smooth and uninterrupted experience specially tailored for business travelers, while maintaining our high service standards. The objectives of embarking this Work Redesign project were to greatly enhance guests’ satisfaction and establishing a competitive advantage in service especially in the hospitality industry, locally and regionally. It focused on eliminating lengthy procedures especially the check-in and check-out processes. Royal Plaza on Scotts is the first hotel in Singapore to tap on the consultancy grant by Spring Singapore for this project. 

Hotel guests no longer need to fill in registration forms at the reception and will be escorted into the room within 1 minute upon arrival, with express delivery of the luggage to the room. This project is made possible with the comprehensive information provided upon room reservations. Confidential data like mailing addresses, contact numbers, company information and guests’ room preferences will be stored into the reservations system allowing the guests to ZROOM into the hotel room. Upon guest check-in, registration and check-in procedures will be done at the convenience of the guest upon arrival and in the room. And the night before the guest checks out, total room charges will be sent to the guest. Upon check-out, guest can simply call for Concierge to collect the luggage and proceed to the driveway for transport. After checking out, the hotel will follow up with a total bill and this will be sent to the mailing address. 

The brainchild of this project is our Front Office Manager, Mr Albert Lim, with the impeccable assistance of an expert consultancy team comprising of two top-notched gurus in measurement and service, Dr Bob Frost and Mr David Borden as well as experienced hospitality consultants from Training Strategies. In particular, Dr Frost, who hails from the United States, is a measurement specialist with 30 years of experience in helping leading organizations measure and improve work processes to achieve the company’s strategic objectives.

Royal Plaza on Scotts is constantly innovating to improve service delivery and increase guest satisfaction. A total of 1375 hotel guests experienced ZROOM on a trial basis, and many gave a thumbs-up. Mrs Rosemary Gosling was pleasantly surprised to see her luggage upon entering her room. A regular guest at Royal Plaza on Scotts, Mr Voon Thien Soong exclaimed, “Great service, just a signature and everything is taken care of!” And Mr Hugh Cuthenbertson, who was flabbergasted to see our staff at the driveway welcoming him said, “ The friendly staff made me feel important and the added advantage of this service is that I do not have to join the queue at the Front Desk for check-in procedures.”
