| Rating: Location: The Grand Hotel is probably the best known landmark in Nuwara Eliya. A part of the building has the reputation of once being the residence of a former British Governor - Sir Edward Barnes and was called "Barnes Hall" during that period. Nuwara Eliya is 6,180 ft above sea level, nestling in the cool, misty hill country of Sri Lanka. It is the greenest part of the country, flourishing in fern and fauna, its lush green tea hills give it a distinctive mark of its own. It takes about 3 and a half hours to drive to Nuwara Eliya from Colombo. Rooms: 156 well-presented guest rooms and suites with fire place/heater and private bathroom.
